Capital City Trail

The Capital City Trail connects to the Lake Loop and the Southwest Path. It’s the one trail I have not completed so I set out to do so this morning. I took the SW Path to the Lake Loop and did a bit of overlap. Ideally I would have taken the SW Path to the bike hub where the Cap City Trail begins. Once I connected to it near the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, I turned right instead of left and went to the end. I backtracked and continued on into the Atwood neighborhood and back to the Monona Terrace before catching the detour around Monona Bay. The Cap City Trail is closed until 2027 from Bloom to Lakeside.

The Lake Loop and Cap City Trail split at RT12. I rode some of this section out of McFarland last week, but everything after the McFarland turnoff was new. I had about 9 miles to the bike hub where all the trails connect. This part of the trail was my favorite. It was quiet and wooded with very few road crossings. I rolled into the bike hub and connected to the SW Path, knowing I had a few miles home.

I will incorporate the Cap City Trail into more rides. It’s a great loop if correctly connected with the Bike Loop and SW Path.
