112.4 Miles

I drove RT14 to RT23 to RT130 before returning home on RT151. In the Spring I drove back from La Crosse on RT14, but didn’t have much time to explore. Honestly, I was hoping for more from the towns of Cross Plains, Black Earth, Mazomanie, Arena, Spring Green, and Clyde. Maybe they are more modern than I hoped.

Black Earth has the Shoe Box going for it, while the others don’t have much more than a small downtown. Spring Green is the largest of the group, and was more active. It’s home to Taliesin so more tourist stop to explore, maybe even spend the night. Clyde on the other hand was nothing more than an intersection of Clyde Rd. and RT130. A homestead dating to 1850 sits on the corner and a run down community center welcomes you driving north on RT130.

The roads between Spring Green and RT151 in Dodgeville are the most scenic. They roll and sweep through the farmland. They are comforting as the GPS reads SOS. Just remember odd is North/South and even is East/West.
